Valentine’s Day Love
Creativity in the Anaheim Emergency Shelter
The Anaheim Emergency Shelter’s February workshop was our Valentine's Day project. Auxiliary member, Kellie Moore, led the class and with her instructions, guests made cute and creative paper flower arrangements. Men and women alike had a great time! One lady said, "This is fun and it makes us feel special." Guests shared they were going to give their "flower vase" to a friend, while others said they were going to use it to decorate their sleep area.
These workshops are always appreciated and enjoyed by the shelter guests. Thanks to Nancy Romero from the Women’s Auxiliary for organizing monthly workshops!
Senior Center Love
Our Development team took time this week to make 80 handwritten Valentine’s Day cards for seniors in Orange County. They beautifully decorated the cards with stickers, encouraging notes, and Bible verses. They were taken to the Orange Senior Center where the seniors got to enjoy the thought and beauty that went into each card. Click below for a glimpse of the process!
Love in the Bible
Valentine’s Day is not mentioned in the Bible. It was instituted in honor of a third-century clergyman, who was named Saint Valentine. He was either a priest or a bishop in the Roman Empire who ministered to persecuted Christians. He was martyred and his body buried on the Via Flaminia in Rome on February 14, which has been observed as the Feast of Saint Valentine (Saint Valentine's Day) since at least the eighth century.
Below are Bible verses to remind us of God’s love:
- Isaiah 54:10 For the mountains may move and the hills disappear, but even then my faithful love for you will remain. My covenant of blessing will never be broken.
- Psalm 90:14 Satisfy us in the morning with your steadfast love, that we may rejoice and be glad for all our days.
- Colossians 3:14 & 13:13 And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.
