Up in the Air with Lynnette Palmquist
Flight attendant Lynnette Palmquist learned about The Salvation Army from a past president of the Women’s Auxiliary, Linda Groth, who invited her to one the luncheons. She was hooked. Three years ago, Lynnette became president. She has always enjoyed volunteering and felt The Salvation Army was a perfect place with their motto of “Doing the most good”.
Lynnette has been a Flight Attendant for 42 years and it’s a lifestyle she wouldn’t trade for anything. She says no two days are ever alike. When asked when she plans to retire, she responds, “Why? I get a 24 hour vacation in Hawaii once a month and get paid to do it!”
Speaking of doing the most good
Along with the fun is a deep responsibility. Recently she and her fellow crew members saved the life of a passenger who was having a heart attack. By the time the paramedics arrived, the gentlemen was out of danger.
This deep sense of caring shows in Lynnette’s dedication to her work with women and children who are helped by the Women’s Auxiliary.
Who doesn’t love shopping?
She says her favorite Women’s Auxiliary memory is shopping with the women from the Adult Rehabilitation Center at the Spring Fashion Show. Getting to know how they survived their time on the streets, the struggles they faced, and how they persevered is quite enlightening. It makes you a cheerleader for these gals, whether they succeed this time or need multiple interventions; they made it to the starting line to being a new life.
Lynnette has been married to an adventurous man for 29 years. He has orchestrated some of the most arduous and crazy trips you could imagine. They have a loving and kind 23 year old son who is attending college. They all love to travel, ski, scuba dive, and lately she has become an ultra-runner.
“Join the Women’s Auxiliary,” she says. “It gives women a chance to meet others who want to make a difference. You can be as involved as you like. Just attend the luncheons, volunteer for an event or two. Or be president. All avenues are open, we would just love to meet you and welcome you to our fellowship.”
