The Salvation Army celebrates International Women's Day every day!
For over 150 years, since the mid 1800’s in England, The Salvation Army has inspired women around the world where they currently have a presence in 141 countries.
Both men and women serve as complimentary leaders in equal capacities based on the foundational reality that we are all created in God’s image. They are equally trained to serve wherever they are called and deployed around the world.
Women are blessed with unique talents, gifts, and abilities to serve one another, their families and communities – each contributing in “Doing the Most Good” and meeting human needs “without discrimination”.
The inclusion of women in every aspect of service is most visible in:
- empowering women to model servant leadership where they live;
- teaching basic life skills in under-developed countries;
- encouraging spiritual reliance on Divine strength through prayer;
- providing opportunities of education and,
- creating communities where women can support one another and their families, and be celebrated in their creativity and unique personhood.
Affirming the Great Commandment to love God and our neighbor, women are encouraged and included in sharing the joy of not only receiving, but unselfishly extending care to others.
The range of servant opportunities is global and endless. Millions are blessed by the hands of women who assist in disaster relief, extend care to struggling or displaced families, advocate employment and social service opportunities, or serve those trafficked and in recovery.
Committed to fulfilling God’s will on earth as it is in heaven, women are ordained, gifted and empowered to make a difference wherever they are called to live and serve with abandon.
