The Freer Forte Music Program
The Salvation Army’s creative arts and music program in Orange County is busy bringing music and art wherever we can fill a void and meet the need. We know that music improves our lives in many meaningful ways, and The Salvation Army Orange County wants to use its resources to have the greatest impact possible.
The Freer Forte Music Program Spring Session is in full swing. Many of the students are returning from the Fall session to continue their free music education, and our classes were full before we began last month. Students fill the halls and rooms at Anaheim Red Shield every Wednesday afternoon and evening for drums, guitar, ukulele, keyboard, and singing, and in each class, they learn technique, theory, and performance skills. Each child was able to choose one class to focus on this session, which started January 17 and ends May 8.
Each class will perform in our Spring recital on May 11 to show their family and friends the musical pieces they have been practicing. Our teachers have a great deal of knowledge and experience in both education and music and we are thrilled to have them on the team.
Private Music Lessons
Private music lessons started last month, which include many instruments and will be held at Tustin Ranch, Anaheim Red Shield, and Santa Ana Temple. Students will combine with our group classes on May 11 to perform their rehearsed pieces. Spots are filling up for these one-one-one lessons, especially for violin, piano, and voice. We can’t wait to hear what they’re learning.
Summer Music and Art Camps
This summer, the program expands with summer camps at Anaheim Red Shield in both musical instruments and art. Each instrument will make up its own camp, and art camps will include painting, drawing, art journals, clay and more. The week-long camps this June will include techniques, lessons, and a lot of creating. On Friday, students will exhibit their art works and musical pieces for their parents, family, and friends to enjoy.
Vacation Bible School at Henley Youth Center and Creative Corner Preschool this summer will feature art and music lessons based on Psalm 139. Students will sing and create pieces to remember God’s unfailing love for them.
Art classes with our Anti-Trafficking Services are also happening this month. Clay pieces with gold leaf, acrylic painting, and art journals are just some of the meaningful ways clients can express their feelings and we can share the truth of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
