The Freer Forte Music Program
Beginning on or about October 23, the Freer Forte Music Program is scheduled to welcome students in certain Anaheim schools for a 30 – 45 minute music class to be held at the Anaheim Red Shield. The goal of the program is to provide free music education to students who may not be receiving music education in their school itself.
Under the direction of Alisa Hopper, the program incorporates both choral and instrumental music.
How it will work
Classes will be provided in an 8-week module and will line up with Salvation Army’s big Christmas performance, Carols in the Courtyard, on December 17. Students will can access all songs so they can practice at home.
For the Anaheim program, students will walk from school to the Anaheim Red Shield for their lessons. In other districts, classes will be held on the school campuses.
After many applicants and zoom interviews, Hopper has a short list of teachers to interview in person to teach the classes. Each has impressive experience and education. Instructors to be interviewed will teach everything from keyboard, drums, guitar, and voice to brass, mandolin, ukulele, and cello.
The first school district to participate will be the Anaheim Elementary School District (through Anaheim Succeeds). Alisa Hopper, Director of Creative Arts and Music, is currently also working with Tustin USD (Expanded Learning - ExL) and Orange USD (CARES expanded learning).
If you wish to donate instruments or money to the program, please email: Alisa.Hopper@usw.salvationarmy.org
This is just the beginning of an amazing program that will in the future provide private lessons to students interested in becoming more involved with music. We are excited to bring the joy and many benefits of music to young people in Orange County. It was originally envisioned by Major Nesan and it is a cause close to the hearts of Majors Ken and Jenni Perine who developed an amazing music program at their previous post in Spokane Washington.
We thank the Lord for his inspiration that will grow this program of singing praises to him.
