Spring Cleaning

May 5, 2023 | by Lynn Freer

It’s already May! I just realized I hadn’t started my spring cleaning so I started this Monday. I resolved to get rid of things I no longer need or want so my children don’t accuse me of being a hoarder!

I started with my clothes: With certain exceptions I bagged up everything (with a few exceptions) I hadn’t worn in a year. As I went through things, I actually found a dress I bought for my daughter’s wedding 25 years ago. I might have kept it if I was still 110 pounds and if it hadn’t been full of mildew.

Next I actually went through the four large boxes of things I had taken out of drawers when I did my remodeling over a year ago. Gee, I found around 15 keys that belonged to my long gone office and from various rekeying at my home. I also had some granola bars and other things that fortunately didn’t attract any creatures into my spare bedroom!

Spring clean your commitment to the Lord

Finally, I started through the two boxes that I have moved unopened in my last three moves over a period of 20 years. There I found a treasure: An old family Bible. Along with it was a book of favorite Bible verses and prayers. I spent the rest of the afternoon going through these books and thinking about how fortunate I am to have Jesus in my life and renewed my commitment to Christ. But I realized I had not been as diligent in my prayers as I should be. Here are three verses that I read and give thanks for the privilege of prayer and to God for hearing us when we pray.

  • David praying for deliverance in Psalm 3
  • Paul’s prayers for the Ephesians in Ephesians 1:15-23
  • Jesus’ prayer of submission in Luke 22:39-46

I wish you an uplifting Spring Cleaning.

PS The old family Bible now sits on my dresser.
