Rhythms of Summer: Discovering Music at Camp

Jul 12, 2024

Melodic Memories

Summer camp at the Freer Forte Music School was held at Anaheim Red Shield June 24-28. Music camp offers numerous benefits for children, making it a valuable and enriching experience. Beyond learning musical skills and techniques, it provides a nurturing environment where kids can explore creativity, build confidence, and develop important social skills.

Music has the power to uplift spirits, heal souls, and inspire awe. It transcends language barriers to touch hearts across cultures.

Harmony in your Hands

There were 45 students in attendance, with an equal number on the waiting list. Students were able to choose from different instruments to study for the week, and on the last day they performed what they had learned for their parents. Instruments included guitar, drums, piano, and singing. There was even an art class where students learned about different art techniques and concepts and made art journals using mixed media.

Because of our generous donors, we were able to make camps free to the community, just like our weekly music classes, and we had full waiting lists for each one.

Next year we hope to add to our list of camps with more instruments, art mediums, and even a dance and movement class.

Alisa Hopper is responsible for the music and art classes and says, “I am thrilled to be a small part of what God is doing in The Salvation Army Orange County and our surrounding communities. It is humbling to see lives changed by Jesus Christ and his love for all of us.”

A little more about Alisa

Alisa came to The Salvation Army Orange County to establish and run the Freer-Forte Music program that began in late 2022. Since then, she has sold out classes and enthusiastic children expressing themselves through music. The Lord has blessed us and the children with this talented, experienced musician. Thank you Alisa.
