Meet Lex Giron: Bearer of Love from the Santa Ana Temple
The Salvation Army is arranged in different Corps (churches), reaching out to the community to help those in need with food, shelter, and most importantly—faith and love. Major Lex Giron and his wife, Major Patricia Giron, are the Corps Officer for the Santa Ana Temple. His journey is similar to many Salvation Officers: A life of service to the Lord, wherever he is needed.
Santa Ana for the second time
Lex’s first appointment was in Pasco, WA where he was a pastor for six years as part of a large Hispanic congregation that also had a radio program. He also served as chaplain in the federal penitentiary in Walla Walla where he:
- Led Bible studies and counseling and motivation courses to the inmates of the Hispanic
- Visited with the families of the inmates and helped work with social services.
After, he served as a pastor for four years in Bakersfield. Also, while there, he had the opportunity to serve as a chaplain for the Hispanic community in the fire department.
Next came his first time as pastor of the Santa Ana Temple where he was very involved in preparing future leaders for the local ministry and future candidates to be officers in The Salvation Army.
Later, he served in LA Central Corps, where he served a large community of 300 retired and low-income elderly people with his wife. He also carried out a ho meal ministry on the Skid Row for the homeless three days a week for 300 people in the canteen.
Before returning to Santa Ana, he served in Kansas City and Territorial Headquarters.
He has been at the Santa Ana Temple for the last six months. We are so blessed to have Major Lex’s talent and spirit back in Santa Ana.
Bearer of love
Major Lex says that his most important contribution to the mission of The Salvation Army is being a bearer of love, understanding, helping and supporting many people in their different needs and circumstances.
It’s clear in his work with the Hispanic community, in the penitentiary, and on the streets of Skid Row, Lex lives to bring love and the Lord to those most in need.
He says he sees God’s miracles in the life-changing experience of men, women, adults, and young people. There is a saying in The Salvation Army, “We are saved to serve” that motivates him to personally to help anyone in need.
Lex’s family
Major Lex has four children, eight grandchildren, and a four-month-old great-granddaughter. He is proud of them all.
They are all Christians. Two of his daughters are officers in The Salvation Army, his other children are members in other churches. He says, “I believe that my wife and are an example for them as Christians, as parents and friends for them. My dream is and has always been to be a good example, inspiration and leave them a legacy of love until my last day of life.”
He describes the Santa Ana Temple as “A loving, multicultural Christian community with a heart to love and help our neighbors inside and outside our communities. Our main focus is keeping families united in love.
