Jay Leno to Headline The Salvation Army Orange County’s Night For Others Event

Despite Recent Burn Injuries, Jay Leno Returns to Help the Nonprofit Raise Funds for The Center of Hope in the Effort to End Chronic Homelessness

(December 6, 2022, Tustin, Calif.) -- Just weeks after sustaining third-degree burns from a fire sparked in his legendary garage, Jay Leno is set to perform to a sold-out crowd for a second year at The Salvation Army Orange County’s 2022 Night for Others.

The gala-style event is The Salvation Army Orange County’s largest fundraising event of the year and will be held this coming Friday, December 9, 2022, at the Balboa Bay Club in Newport Beach. This year’s event will once again raise funds for The Center of Hope, introducing attendees to the next phase of the homeless care campus: The Center for Applied Research and Innovation (CARI).

“The Center of Hope is part of The Salvation Army Orange County’s plan to confront, disrupt, and eventually end chronic homelessness,” said Nesan Kistan, Divisional Secretary Orange County. “The Center for Applied Research and Innovation is the heart of the Center of Hope’s campus, helping us execute our goals to end suffering in Orange County caused by homelessness. We know that this will be a reality with Jay’s help this coming Friday.”

CARI will include the Samueli Solutions Hub and The Bill Gross Medical Center, which together will create solutions to disrupt the homelessness epidemic. Full, wrap-around care will be provided including primary and preventative care, mental health care, dental care, spiritual, and even pet care. CARI will also host the first-of-its-kind research ‘hub’ in the nation, gathering today’s most innovative and entrepreneurial minds to leverage The Salvation Army’s practical expertise to create solutions to end homelessness, and other great challenges of our day.

“CARI will serve as a solutions hub where ideas will be exchanged and innovative solutions will be put into practice in our effort to help people progress toward independent living,” said Kistan. “Our secret ingredient that makes our efforts so successful is infusing a spiritual component into recovery efforts to help those we assist have the best chance of regaining full autonomy.”

Last year’s event raised a record-breaking $2.2 million dollars for The Salvation Army Orange County’s Center of Hope, which broke ground on January 31, 2022, almost two months following the event. With the anticipated success of this year’s Night for Others, CARI will break ground in May 2023.

The Center of Hope is part of The Salvation Army Orange County’s innovative plan to combat the homeless crisis. The effort is a $110 public/private partnership that combines a 325-bed low-barrier emergency shelter with 72 permanent support housing apartments, onsite medical, dental, and pet care, to be built alongside The Salvation Army Orange County’s award-winning 175-bed drug and alcohol rehabilitation center in Anaheim.

“We aim to transform lives,” said Kistan. “The Center of Hope is the pathway to safer neighborhoods, business districts, and the real opportunity to end chronic homelessness in Orange County.”
