Does your workplace have a Fun Committee?
Does your workplace have a Fun Committee?
I can remember back in the 60’s, companies often had Sunshine Committees to celebrate employee birthdays and successes. Now, companies implement Company Culture Committees and now Fun Committees. And the Salvation Army OC employees are enjoying the work of a Fun Committee at each site.
Based on responses from an employee focus group exercise, the Salvation Army OC launched the Fun Committee at each site to engage with staff, increase employee morale, and provide fun ways to get to know each other and work together as a team. We heard from our employees and responded!
Each site prepares and plans activities, fun themes for holidays, potluck gatherings, friendly competitions, and other events with the goal of increasing engagement and fun. For example, the Housing Stabilization Program held their first bowling lunch outing in February and Tustin Ranch office staff held a Super Bowl potluck and carnival games in the courtyard. Anaheim Emergency Shelter celebrated the week of Valentine’s Day with different themes each day.
How does having FUN impact our culture? The fruits of the Fun Committee will show by increased motivation and commitment to the organization from our staff. Happy employees will result in higher productivity and better performance that will positively reflect on The Salvation Army Orange County. Our employees are the superstars in carrying out the daily mission to transform lives with courage and innovation, empowered by Holy faith. A healthy culture creates opportunities for our staff to flourish, engage, and encourage one another as partners in our mission and ministry.
The Fun Committee activities make coming to work more enjoyable and help employees get to know other employees who they don’t work directly work with, but with whom they have common interests outside of work.
Thank you Fun Committee for making coming to work FUN!
