The Meaning of Easter
Many of us focus on the gift of Jesus given at Christmas and while this is significant, it is not until Easter when the full measure of the gift of Jesus is truly experienced. The gift of Jesus shows the depth of God’s love as Jesus lays down his life for the sins of all of humanity. He lays down his life as a sacrifice for us, willingly being beaten, tortured and mocked and finally being nailed on the cross.
Jesus’ death itself is powerful but even more powerful is his resurrection 3 days later. In scripture when the power of the resurrection is written about it is described as “dunamis” power - it’s the word where we get the English word dynamite. Resurrection power is dynamite power, explosive. Thinking about Jesus’ resurrection in these terms shows me that Jesus didn’t just wake up from being dead, stumble from the tomb, no Jesus exploded from death and the tomb, death and the tomb were destroyed and he is victorious over them. Sin, death, the grave have no power over us because God’s word tell us that the same power that raised Jesus from the dead lives in us. Friends this Easter experience the the full measure of God’s love in the gift of Jesus and his sacrifice. Know without a shadow of a doubt that resurrection power - dunamis power, resurrection power lives in you because of Jesus’ victory.
