Commemorating our Heroes
This week, we remember all the brave individuals who have blessed our country with the greatest gift of sacrifice through their military service. Throughout the years, Americans across the country hold tributes to these brave, fallen soldiers by gathering with family and friends and decorating their graves with flowers. American writer Helen Steiner Rice wrote a Memorial Day Prayer that says:
“They served and fought and died,
So that we might be safe and free.
Grant them, O Lord, eternal peace,
and give them the victory.
And in these days of unrest,
filled with grave uncertainty,
let’s not forget the price they paid,
to keep our country free.”
Open House at Tustin Ranch
Last Saturday, Tustin Ranch had their annual Open House event. This is a chance where you can see all the featured programs and activities that the Tustin Ranch Corps has to offer. There were booths in the fellowship hall featuring the Life Transformation program, Music program, Women’s Auxiliary, Quilting and THe Habit truck serving hungry attendees! There was even The Habit truck serving burgers for hungry attendees. On the other side of the campus they had a bounce house, face painting and booths for all the children’s programs including Creator’s Corner, Henley Youth Center and the upcoming Summer Camp program.
The Freer Forte Music Program Music Recital
This Spring Music Recital at the Anaheim Red Shield was a great success! Young singers and instrumentalists who have been practicing all quarter brought joy and cheer to the audience with their musical gifts. The students performed a number of musical pieces varying from Praise by Elevation Worship to broadway favorites from the musical Annie.
The Freer Forte Music program provides music and art classes for our after-school program at the Henley Youth Center in Tustin and for survivors residing at our anti-trafficking facilities around the county. Private lessons are also available and there is a Music Summer Camp as well. The program offers group classes and private lessons for voice, piano, drums, guitar, ukulele and violin.
Warm Hearts at Anaheim Red Shield Open House
Anaheim Red Shield held their Open House on Wednesday, May 14 and were able to connect with influential people who really want to partner up and help those in need. They were able to connect with the staff on what The Salvation Army is doing here in Orange County and the exciting things to come.
The team was also given an opportunity to put their words into action that day. Our Lt. Jocelyn shared this incredible story with us:
“A man in need came in asking for a clothing voucher. We didn't have any vouchers, but were able to give him new t-shirts and polos and some food from our pantry. My staff talked with him to find out if he needed shelter or any other resources. He told us that someone was giving him a place to stay and a job, which is why he needed the clothes. My staff also told him about the Adult Rehabilitation Center, a program they have both graduated from. They told him about how it had changed their life. The man took the information and said that he would look into it because he had also been struggling with substance abuse. We also invited him to church and encouraged him that he was welcome to come just as he is. The man left with some new clothes, food, information, but most importantly he left with a renewed sense of hope. He left knowing that there are people who care about him and that there is a God who loves him just as he is. I was reminded of the people who really need to be here, as I had prayed. It reminded me just how important our presence in the community is. I felt like God was encouraging me to just keep doing the work and He will take care of the rest.”
