Beyond Red Kettles: The Many Ways The Salvation Army Loves (Through) and Beyond Christmas

Nov 24, 2022

Ensuring struggling families have the resources and opportunities to make memories this Christmas.

LET’S HELP THOSE IN NEED THIS CHRISTMAS

Although the holidays are often a time of joy, many families are unable to celebrate as they battle the effects of poverty. In 2022, staggering inflation, increased costs of groceries, gas, and every day essentials are costing families more than ever. So many of our Orange County neighbors to can’t pay their bills much less buy Christmas presents for their children. The Salvation Army is here to help those most in need have a safe, joyous, and hopeful holiday.

The Salvation Army is most often recognized for the iconic Red Kettles seen during the Christmas season. But there are many other wonderful experiences and help we provide.

Here are some of the ways we can help our neighbors:

RED KETTLES

Now in its 131st year, the annual Red Kettle Campaign is one of the longest-running and most recognizable fundraising efforts in the world. The small amount of change dropped in the kettles during Christmas time may seem like a passing gesture to most. However, the impact of the donated your coins and small bills adds up. The kettles help support those in need, including:

  • food pantries
  • housing assistance
  • after-school programs
  • summer camps
  • anti-trafficking programs that help victims of sex and labor trafficking break free from bondage
  • addiction-recovery programs that result in clean, self-sufficient members of our Orange County communities

ANGEL TREE

Each year, the Angel Tree program collects and distributes thousands of new toys and activities to Orange County’s underserved Children and seniors. The generosity of anonymous donors who adopt “angels” from the Angel Tree helps make the season even more rewarding for the gift giver and a sense of normality to the recipients.

BASIC NEEDS

Every day of the year, The Salvation Army Orange County provides necessities like food, shelter, clothing, and financial assistance. During the holidays, these requests increase. We rely on the generosity of the Orange County community to help us ensure that our more vulnerable neighbors have a roof over their heads, food on the table, and heat on cold nights.

Thank you Orange County for being our partners during the Christmas season and beyond; we are transforming lives through courage and innovation, empowered by Holy faith.
